The team from PGTE “Henry Ford” wins awards for its participation in “Copernicus4schools – The Great Challenge of Natural Disasters”

Eighth-grade students from PGTE “Henry Ford” took an active part in an educational event held under the motto “The Great Challenge of Natural Disasters,” which is part of the European Union’s FPCUP Copernicus4schools initiative.
The event took place on March 19, 2025, and provided an opportunity for students and teachers to learn about the Copernicus program and its capabilities for providing satellite data for Earth observation from space. During the training sessions, participants learned how to process satellite images in a QGIS environment for the purpose of monitoring and analyzing natural disasters, with a special focus on floods.
The school is particularly proud of the participation of a team of students from PGTE “Henry Ford” in the poster session competition, where they presented a pre-prepared scientific poster on the topic “Natural disasters – observation through Copernicus”. Thanks to their excellent preparation, the team won second prize at the national level. The students also took part in a video conference with peers from other European countries, during which they shared their views on natural disasters, the role of innovative technologies in preventing, predicting, and managing related risks, as well as the impact of climate change and human activity on the environment.
Participation in the initiative contributed significantly to the development of the students’ digital, scientific, and civic competences and established PGTE “Henry Ford” as a school that encourages innovation and active student participation in European educational projects.
